Determining the adhesion strength of coatings like glue, paint, varnish, etc. is quite necessary to make sure that the coating on the substrate is done well and is performing suitably. To measure the same, a large number of China PVC Cold Lamination Films Suppliers adhesion testing methods are available that helps to know that how efficiently the painting or coating is done on a solid substrate. In the paint and plating industry, paint adhesion testing is used to analyze whether the coating is done properly on the substrates or not. To perform the same, various adhesion test methods are introduced to measure the coating resistance, namely, cross hatch test, pull-off test, and scrape adhesion test.Cross Hatch TestThe cross hatch test is a method used for determining the resistance of paints to separation from any material with the help of a cross hatch tool that cuts a right angle lattice pattern on the painting, piercing all the way to the material.
With the aid of this test method, test results can be concluded easily and quickly. For testing a substrate with multiple coating, determination of the resistance to separation of different layers from each other with the assistance of this tester can be attained easily. As per ASTM standard test methods, this is done with two test methods Test Method A and Test Method B.As per Method A, X cut is made on the substrate with the help of the cross cut blades. Now pressure sensitive tape is applied to the scratch. Now the tape is removed rapidly. Now the adhesion is measured with the help of 0 to 5 measurement scale. As per test method B, cross hatch pattern is made on the substrate.
Now remove the detached coating with the help of a soft brush. Adhesion is determined with the procedure on a 0 to 5 scale. The 0 to 5 scale indicates that zero (0) means more than 65% area is removed, and Five (5) means 0 percent area is removed. Scrape Adhesion TestThe scrape adhesion test helps to determine the adhesion strength of unrefined coating when done on smooth and flat surfaces. This test method is very useful for providing qualified rating to the high number of coated surfaces showing major variation in adhesion.Pull-off testThe adhesive strength of a coating done on any material is measured by assessing the minimum tensile stress required to crack the coating done on the substrate. Different from other test methods, this enhances the tensile stress. Hence, outputs are not compared with other methods.
